The Spain Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, themed “La Corriente de Kuroshio,” is conceived as a poetic, multisensory journey inspired by the ocean current that symbolizes cultural exchange between Spain, Japan, and the wider world. Designed as a permeable, organic structure, its curved forms and sustainable Mediterranean-inspired materials evoke waves, sails, and light, transforming the pavilion into a symbolic port of openness and collaboration. By day, natural light creates shimmering water-like effects, while at night the pavilion glows like a welcoming lighthouse.
Inside, visitors flow through three thematic chapters. The first immerses them in the metaphor of water as life and connectivity through soundscapes, projections, and interactive light. The second explores Spain’s historic ties with Asia, particularly the Manila Galleon trade, through digital reconstructions, artifacts, and storytelling of diplomacy, migration, and cultural exchange. The third highlights Spain’s innovation in sustainability, aerospace, and circular economy, with interactive, evolving digital installations showcasing collaborative futures.
Artistic interventions—including sculptures, sound art, and live performances—enrich the journey, alongside spaces for reflection, cultural programming, and Spanish gastronomy that tells stories through taste. The pavilion integrates architecture, content, and emotion into one continuous experience, leaving visitors with both intellectual insight and emotional resonance.
A living, breathing landmark of design and storytelling, the Spain Pavilion embodies Spain’s openness, creativity, and commitment to global dialogue, flowing seamlessly between past, present, and future.
